Who would have thought there would ever be a university named after a poker pro…well there will be, sort of. Johnny Chan and his company is rumoured to have made an arrangement with the Casino Career Training Center in Buffalo, NY to brand an online training course for dealers surprisingly dubbed “Johnny Chan University”. The main idea behind the course according to Chan is to capitalize on the future demand especially in the Asian markets. Read the rest of this entry »

This is a really cool video about some professional card hustlers who staged a poker documentary with the Hendon Mob to show off their cheating tactics. Of course, the Hendon Mob players thought it was a legit documentary until told otherwise lol. This story was originally published on the Bankrollboost.com Poker Gossip blog, but I wanted to share it with our readers as well as it is such an interesting video:

Dealers be afraid……very afraid. It looks as though automated poker tables could become the standard for table games in casinos in the near future. Harrah’s has publicized a deal today which includes a contract with PokerTek giving the company exclusive rights to provide the technology for automated poker tables at the casino and seemingly, more Harrah’s properties to follow. Financial deals were not disclosed in the press release, however the deal is most likely in the high millions. Read the rest of this entry »

So being a student myself (for the next 9 hours until i write my last exam), I found this article courtesy of Ashley Furrow (campus correspondent) quite relevant to the last four years of the university experience and decided to write a comment on it. As I am sure almost every college student can attest, poker is becoming an integral part of the college experience. Whether it be about bonding, money or just pure fun, flops are droping all over college campuses around the world. What started as a fun past time is quickly taking over the typical part-time serving job that most students have at some point in their academic careers. Apparentely it is easier to make that disposable income in the comfort of your own bed playing $5-$10 No-Limit on Full Tilt, who would have thought? Read the rest of this entry »

Just came across a website this morning with lots of poker cartoons that appear to be from the same artist. This one was particularly amusing:

Austria based BWIN Interactive Gaming AG announced today a staggering net loss of $730 Million in 2006 largely in part to their acquisition of the OnGame network, a provider of poker network software to major players such as Pokerroom. The loss stems from a depreciation cost associated with the acquisition of Swedish OnGame and is attributed to the UIGEA which in turn caused the OnGame network to lose about 70% of its annual revenues which were derived from their US player base. Yesterday, Anna Wroblewski became the first woman ever to win a preliminary event at the Bellagio Five Star World Poker Open winning the $3,000 Buy-in No-Limit event. The tournament featured a field of 324 players and a respectable prize pool of $943,000, Anna’s share representing approx. $337,395. This is a great accomplishment for Anna and women poker players across the nation. Anna, who had just started a $10/hour job to help pay the bills after going on a horrible streak at the tables, seemed determined and relived as she entered the final table of play. Once again the always insane poker pros jumped into the $300-$600 Heads-Up No-Limit game on Full Tilt last night.  This time, the rival featured poker sensation Phil Ivey and know and respected online pro, Sbrugby a.k.a Brian Townsend.  As always the match was filled with lots of crazy plays and coin flips for thousands, but one hand in particular really stood out as the pot reached the $250,000 area on a turn all-in call by Ivey, here is what went down: Read the rest of this entry »

The No-Limit action really heated up last night on Full Tilt with 4-5 players all in on the $500-$1000 No-Limit game incuding the likes of Phil Ivey and David Benyamine, both repsected poker pros. This is the highest limit offering on Full Tilt and also features a $30,000 CAP, meaning the players cannot each bet more than $30K per hand, which actually limits this game somewhat. The big winner of the table was David Benyamine who amassed a chip count of $305,856.95 (Yes this is real money people). Because of the CAP there was tons of all ins and as always, the rail was alive with observers and hecklers. One particularly odd player named Im2Fast would keep coming to the table and professing how good he was to all the players, but would never actually sit in and play…..can you say scared. Anyways all in all it was a great game to watch and finally broke near 5am this morning. Below are a few select screenshots from the action: Read the rest of this entry »
