Just one week after Barney Frank introduced a bill to regulate online gambling in the US, Rep. Shelly Berkley has followed up on Frank’s iniative introducing bill H.R. 2140 to the House of Representatives this past Thursday. The new bill proposes that a study be done by the National Academy of Sciences to analyze what the proper response is in how the US should adress the online gambling issue. Not surprisingly, Barney Frank is one of the bills co-sponors of the bill along with 59 other congressman. If you will recall there were many reports coming in over the last week that first Daniel Negreanu was broke and later on this week that he was also entertaining an offer to become a sponsored pro at one of the big poker rooms (likely Full Tilt or Pokerstars). Barney Frank, Chairman of the House Financial Services Committee is facing some tough opposition on his proposed bill which would regulate online gambling in the United States. The heat comes unsurprisingly from the Professional Sports Lobby (specifically NFL lobbyist Martin Gold) and essentially aims at invalidating Frank’s bill citing an unsustainability that would result from making sports wagering online equal to that of its offline counterpart. Daniel Negreanu just can’t seem to stay out of the blogs this week. First there was allegations saying Negreanu was broke and now it is coming in that Daniel may be in advanced talks with some major poker rooms relating to an exclusive sponsorship deal, which would in essence kill any chance if any that Full Contact Poker had of surviving. Apparentely Negreanu has been having discussions with some of the major players (did someone say Full Tilt or Pokerstars) about signing on for an endorsement deal. Carlos Mortensen BioHaving just won the 2007 WPT Championship, we figured this would be a great time to write a full Carlos Mortensen Bio. Juan Carlos Mortensen a.k.a “The Matador” was born April 13th, 1972 in Ambato, Ecuador and grew up in Madrid, Spain. Mortensen’s introduction to the game of poker was a somewhat unusual one as he observed members of an illegal poker room in Madrid playing while he waited to pick up his Girlfriend. The game intrigued Carlos, who ambitiously decided to play in the underground game losing $100 his first night. The frustration of the loss saw Mortensen return for the next five consecutive nights to the club, which proved to be a good decision as he immediately started winning and continued to do so each of the nights.
