Having just won the 2007 WPT Championship, we figured this would be a great time to write a full Carlos Mortensen Bio. Juan Carlos Mortensen a.k.a “The Matador” was born April 13th, 1972 in Ambato, Ecuador and grew up in Madrid, Spain. Mortensen’s introduction to the game of poker was a somewhat unusual one as he observed members of an illegal poker room in Madrid playing while he waited to pick up his Girlfriend. The game intrigued Carlos, who ambitiously decided to play in the underground game losing $100 his first night. The frustration of the loss saw Mortensen return for the next five consecutive nights to the club, which proved to be a good decision as he immediately started winning and continued to do so each of the nights. Patrik Antonious, born December 13th 1980 in Vantaa, Finland is an up and coming star on the poker scene. A former tennis instructor and model, this Finnish professional started generating buzz with two near final tables in the 2005 World Poker Tour. Later that year he would go on to make three cashes at the World Series and begin to prove himself as a true poker rounder. Ivey was born February 1sy, 1976 in Riverside, California, but spent his youth in New Jersey where he practiced his poker skills with his co-workers at a small telecommunications firm where he was employed. Gus Hansen also know as “The Great Dane” is one of the greatest poker players to play the game in the last five years. Born Gustav Hansen on February 13th, 1974 just outside Copenhagen, Denmark, this poker champion was a professional backgammon player and avid athlete before making the switch to full-time poker pro. Hansen started his gambling ways in a move to New York in 2000 to try to do the professional backgammon circuit full-time, however this dream soon dimished with little action or competition available.
