The ever popular Sunday million tournament hosted by PokerStars saw another big turnout, with over 3,000 players signing up and taking their seats to try and get a piece of the $1,510,500 prize pool. The top 486 finishers would receive a portion of the total prize pool, with the first place finisher taking away a cool quarter of a million. After many hours of play, the lucky winner named ‘Zutzman’ was crowned the Sunday million champion for the week.
There was a lot of discussion about deal making at the final table, especially as there were 5 players left. However, at this point no concrete deals could be made, so the play continued. A peculiar play took place when 5 players were left, which caused the player ‘plasticard’ to leave the tournament in fifth place. His opponent ‘lb6121’ raised pre-flop and ‘plasticard’ called with 3.7 million behind with Kd9c. The flop came 3d Td 7s, which gave no help to ‘plasticard’. ‘lb6121’ pushed all-in from first position, and ‘plasticard’ called despite only having King high. ‘lb6121’ turned over pocket aces, and the board brought no help to ‘plasticard’ as he left the tournament in fifth.
When there were four players left at the table, a deal was struck to give each of the remaining players a fair amount of the final prize pool. There was $30,000 left over to be won, which the players then continued to play for. Two more players were eliminated and so there was a heads-up battle between ‘Zutzman’ and ‘Pehtoori’. When the battle started, Pehtoori had 18.7m in chips with Zutzman only having 11.5m. However, Zutzman managed to win a race and take the lead in the heads up battle. The final hand once again swung in Zutzman’s favour as Pehtoori pushed all in with pocket 8s, as Zutzman called with the dominating Kings. The board brought no help to Pehtoori, as Zutzman picked up the extra $30,000 on top of the already confirmed deal.
