Bodog Fighting Back

Written by Inersha in Poker News

The Bodog Entertainment Group has taken it upon them to fight back in the case relating to the alleged copyright infringement of the company. The dispute previously ran for a total of seven weeks in front of a Nevada judge, with the result certainly not being good news for the Bodog Company, Bodog experienced a default charge of $49 million along with the loss of its domains. The company which Bodog had clashed with were 1st Technology, who then proceeded to apply for a complete injunction preventing all online traffic being redirected to the new Bodog website (www.bodoglife.com), this application was denied by the courtroom allowing Bodog to continue its operations via this fresh website.

The founder of Bodog (Calvin Ayre) appears to have no fear of making his views heard in public and seems to be vocal in expressing his opinions. At one point the Bodog president even requested an actual physical fight with the 1st Technology president on several occasions via his blog. This shows the level of hostility that exists between the two large-scale rivals in the industry, below is a statement given by the president of the Bodog Entertainment Group:

“The company in court from whom our domains were seized has never done any business in the U.S. nor was [it] aware of being served or that a subsequent default judgment had been issued in [its] absence,” he said. “The company is now a defunct ex-supplier of data entry and domain management services to Bodog. Bodog is still and has always been the beneficiary of the Bodog domain names. We are confident that defendant’s legal team can articulate these facts in addition to convincing the Washington judge to take consideration of the established law with regards to domain names. This is a groundbreaking case in the muddy waters of Internet law, and we are confident that we have many aspects in our favour to potentially solidify some clarity on this issue and have our domains returned to us.”

As you can figure out from this statement, no side appears to be willing to come to any form of agreement. Many critics of this case hold the view that the case is slightly “ridiculous” and that the decision ruling against Bodog is quite likely to be overturned in due course. The court case update comes around the time that the Bodog group deal their billionth hand online, a huge milestone for both the company and the online gaming world as a whole.
