The high profile show is set to hit new highs as it enters its 4th series, with increased minimum buy-ins and with an excess of $5 million on the table in some shows.
GSN’s High Stakes Poker is one of the most popular television shows to date. The show centres on a high stakes private cash game with numerous poker pros including the great Doyle Brunson, Johnny Chan and Daniel Negreanu. The show provides a welcome break from the usual tournament highlight shows, as the game format is a No Limit Texas Holdem cash game with a minimum buy in of $100,000. With the blinds at $1000/$2000 with a regular straddle, there is a lot of action and some huge pots have been created, which helps to make very entertaining TV.
The last 3 series’ of High Stakes Poker has provided some great poker entertainment, which is why the show has become so popular with poker fans across the globe. One of the most memorable moments from the show was a hand between Daniel Negreanu and Gus Hansen. Both players hit sets on the flop, with Gus Hansen then making four of a kind on the turn giving Negreanu a full house. Gus Hansen then check-raises all in on the river putting Negreanu to a tough decision. Negreanu finally makes the call, and Hansen takes down a near $600,000 pot.
Things look set to get even bigger than this is the new 4th series, where the minimum buy-in has been raised to $500,000. With so much money at stake, you may think that some of the pros would be concerned about playing, but this is not so. In the new series you will see the regulars of Doyle Brunson, Daniel Negreanu and Sammy Farha, along with a number of other well-known pros that pop up to make an appearance from show to show. These include the likes of Mike “The Mouth” Matusow, Jennifer Harman, Barry Greenstein, Eli Elezra, Phil “The Unabomber” Laak, Sammy Farha, and Todd Brunson. You will also see an appearance from Guy Laliberte, who will be making his debut on the show in the 4th series. Guy Laliberte owns Cirque Du Soleil, and will be donating some of his winnings (if any) to charity.
The show will return soon with the commentary of Gabe Kaplan and AJ Benza to give their opinions and thoughts on the action as it takes place. The show will be a welcomed return to our TV screens, so get ready to see some great high stakes action, and watch top pros play with more money than some of us make in a year!
