Danish player Philim Hilm is currently leading the field on day 6 of the 2007 WSOP Main Event with a commanding stack of $22 million. The Danish player has been living in England and Holland for the last few years, and has only been playing poker professionally for 4 of them. Philim exercises a tight-aggressive and often volatile style, to take out numerous opponents including some big poker pros like Scotty Nguyen.

Hilm is has high hopes for the remainder of the tournament, and has his eyes set on the final table. His high confidence levels and aggressive style make for a deadly combination that should help see him through to the final stages of the tournament. However, there are a number of players snapping at his heels, such as Tuan Lam and Jon Kalmar. Both of these players have $21 million and $20 million respectively, and so they are only a few pots away from taking the chip lead.

The WSOP Main Event has again seen a huge turnout in 2007, with roughly 5000 entrants including all the regular big names of Doyle Brunson, Johnny Chan and Amarillo Slim. However, there was a significant decrease in the number of players that participated in the first day, with a turnout of 1200 players. This a 40 percent decrease when compared to the figures of last year, and it has been put down to the fact that the popularity of poker has reached a plateau over the preceding months leading up to the Main Event.

In spite of this the first day remained very active, with all the above named players turning up to try and win a few nice pots and to get away from the sweltering heat outside. The unlucky player to get knocked out first was Matt Jansen, whose Main Event run lasted a mere 4 minutes. Matt Jansen went all-in holding pocket aces against his opponent who held a flopped flush with Kh Qh. Jansen had the Ah for a potential redraw, but the extra heart did not come and so Jansen was confined to the rail for the remainder of the tournament.

This years Main Event has been moving incredibly quickly, and it wont be long before we find out that the final table is upon us. Early signs show that Hilm is a big favourite to reach the prestigious Main Event final table, but anything can happen within a few short hours at the poker table.
