WSOP Europe nears

Written by Inersha in Poker News

Despite the WSOP Main Event winner being crowned earlier this year as Jerry Yang in July, there is still a lot of WSOP action left to take place this year. The WSOPE (World Series Of Poker Europe) will be kicking off shortly, with the first event taking place on the 6th of September. This should prove to be one of the most popular tournaments hosted on European ground, and so a big crowd is expected to take part in and witness the action.

The first event will be a HORSE tournament with a buy in of £2,500 (roughly ($5,000). A HORSE tournament to those who are not familiar with it is a tournament that incorporates numerous forms of the game of poker. The individual letters of the title represent each of the games played, which are; Holdem, Omaha, Razz, Stud and Eight or better. It is hoped that this tournament will attract a few big name and recreational players and warm up the action for some of the bigger events later in the month. The tournament will take place over 3 days at the Casino at the Empire in London.

The second tournament will be taking place on the 8th of September, and will also be held at the Casino at the Empire in London. The event will be a £5,000 (roughly $10,000) Pot Limit Omaha tournament and should also help to attract numerous big name players and spice up the action.

The big Main Event will be starting on the 10th of September, but it is expected to last for 6 days in total. This will be a No Limit Holdem event with a buy in of £10,000, which works out to be twice as much as the buy in for the WSOP Main Event in America. It is expected that there will be a smaller turnout for the WSOPE Main Event than its WSOP counterpart, but the large buy-in should help to keep the prize pool high.

There will also be a number of professional players making an appearance, including the likes of Phil Ivey, Doyle Brunson, Phil Hellmuth, Howard Lederer, Jennifer Harmen, Erik Seidel and Gus Hansen. The 2006 WSOP Main Event winner Jamie Gold is also expected to show his face in this unique European Event. However, there is currently no news about whether the 2007 winner Jerry Yang will make an appearance.

The commissioner Jeffrey Pollack is looking forward to the event, and had this to say about it: ”We fully expect World Series of Poker Europe, to become Europe’s pre-eminent poker tournament, we’re thrilled that so many of the game’s biggest names will participate.”
