A large European Poker tournament is currently being planned, and it may well become the biggest Poker tournament to ever take place within Europe. The tournament organisers Poker Ireland are teaming up with Mermaid Poker to organise the International Poker Open to take place in October. The event will last for two days from Saturday the 6th to Sunday the 7th, and will have a buy in of €125+25 (roughly $205 altogether).
The event is hoping to have over 700 players sign up in an attempt to beat the current European Poker tournament record of 708. The current record is held by the paddypowerpoker.com Irish Open that took place earlier this year. Not too far behind is the Monte Carlo European Poker tour event, which attracted 706 entrants and also took place this year. If these figures are anything to go by, it appears that poker in becoming a more and more popular game as time progresses.
The tournament will be organised in a joint effort between the Mermaid Poker room and Poker Ireland. The low buy in should help to attract a few more casual players, and not just the pros as most of the big tournaments do. It is unlikely that there will be a field full of famous names seeing as the prize pool may be significantly smaller than what some may be used to, but there may be a few pros turning up to take part in this landmark event because of its nature.
To sign up for the tournament you have to be a member of the Mermaid Poker room, which may prove to make things a little awkward, especially if you do not intend to play at the room. You can then visit www.pokerireland.ie to officially buy your seat at the International Poker Open. The maximum capacity for the tournament is 1000, so it may be in your interest to get your seat quite soon if you aim to take part, even though the actual event is still a few months away.
The tournament organisers have guaranteed that there will be a €100,000 prize pool if at least 700 players turn up. It is also hoped that the first place prize will be around the €30,000 mark. If there is a big turnout, this could end up being one of the hottest tournaments of the year. A lot of players will be attracted to the big prize for the relatively small buy-in.
